What is DHA? DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is a non-toxic simple carbohydrate (sugar), also known as glycerone. It is the primary ingredient in spray tanning solution that reacts with the amino acids in the outer (dead) layers of the skin to create your sunless tan.
DHA is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, and by the fermentation of glycerin.
DHA does not get absorbed into the skin, it does not dye the skin, and it does not damage the skin in any way.
DHA is
FDA approved (since 1970) and recommended by
The Skin Cancer Foundation,
American Academy of Dermatology,
Canadian Dermatology Assocation, and the
American Medical Assocation. as a safe alternative to traditional tanning methods. The skin is made up of two main layers: the epidermis on the outside and the dermis on the inside. The epidermis is made up of layers — the deepest layer of the epidermis, called stratum basale (basal layer) is affected during sun tanning. The Stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis, that is the layer affected by sunless tanning products. The amino acids in your skin react to the DHA as color slowly starts to appear after two hours of application. This process does not change to the actual pigmentation in your skin. As your skin sheds the dry/dead skin cells, the tan will start to fade. That is why it's important to exfoliate prior to tanning. Exfoliating will remove any excess dry/dead skin cells. That is also why it is important to moisturize and hydrate your skin after your tan. Moisturizing will help to slow down the natural exfoliation process.
What is Eurythrolose? Eurythrolose is a red and sour tart sugar found in ripe, red raspberries and other red berries.
Eurythrolose, like
DHA is a self tanning agent that reacts with the amino acids in the keratin protein on the outer layer of skin. Used in conjunction with
DHA, together the two produce a more natural looking, longer lasting, deeper color tan without streaks or orange tones.
Eurythrolose is beneficial to keeping the skin consistently more hydrated. However, unlike
DHA, it may take up to 24 hours to fully develop its final color.
Don't be fooled by Bronzer!
Bronzer is NOT a sunless tanner — it is simply a cosmetic ingredient added to the airbrush spray formula to produce the instant gratification of color. The bronzer is for purely cosmetic purposes while the
DHA and
Eurythrolose react with the amino acids in the skin to develop the sunless tan,
Bronzer DOES NOT affect the final result of your sunless tan.
Bronzers are designed to simply wash away with your first shower once your tan is fully developed.
How to Prepare for your tan... Your skin needs to be clean, dry, and free of any moisturizers, oils or perfumes. You will need to shower, shave and exfoliate before your tan. Do not use any oil based soaps or anything with moisturizers, such as Dove soap & body wash. Avoid sugar & salt scrubs as they will leave a barrier on your skin, which will interfere with the tanning process. Please don't put any lotion on your skin as that will create a barrier as well. If you use conditioner on your hair, make sure to wash it off your skin thoroughly so there is no residue left on your skin.
Hair Removal — You should get waxed at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Waxing after your appointment will remove the outer layers of your skin and your tan along with it. Please avoid waxing until your tan fades. Avoid dermabrasion and facials within 24 hours before your appointment as well.
Manicures & Pedicures —
Manicures & Pedicures should be done before your tan. If you must get one or both, it is advisable to wait at least 24 hours after your tan. Please be aware that nail treatments can lighten, remove, or cause streaks in your tan.
Exfoliating Suggestions — Apply baby oil on your skin and let it sit for at least two hours before soaking in a tub or taking a long, hot shower. That will soften your skin for better exfoliation. If you don't have a product specifically made for exfoliating, you can try combining baking soda with your favorite body wash or dandruff shampoo, and scrub with a washcloth.
Please wear or bring dark, loose clothing to put on after your appointment. What to expect during your appointment... When you arrive, we will discuss the best color options for your skin type, as well as any other questions or concerns that you might have. What to wear during your appointment — You will change into either a bathing suit or any undergarments that will produce the tan lines you desire. Many people choose to go topless as well. Men are required to always wear underwear or bathing suits. Please note that the tanning solution washes out of all clothing, but it is possible to stain silk, satin, wool, or leather.
Appointments last approximately 30 minutes — This includes the time to change your clothing, as well as the tanning and drying process. You will want to avoid wearing light colored clothing after your appointment, in case the bronzer rubs off. You should also avoid fitted clothing and jeans as that will more likely cause the bronzer to rub off, possibly creating an uneven tan. You can wear whatever you desire once your tan develops and you wash off the bronzer, approximately 24 hours after your appointment.
After your appointment... Avoid wearing light colored clothing until after the bronzer is washed off. You will also want to avoid sweating, moisture, or walking around in the rain until your tan is fully developed and the bronzer is rinsed off. Any kind of moisture has the chance of creating an uneven tan or streaks. If there is inclement weather and you don't have an umbrella,
Bronze 365 does have
umbrellas that can be purchased. If you're concerned about sweating then baby powder can be applied to any creases on your skin. Baby powder will prevent moisture from interfering with your tan while still maintaining your color.
Exercising — Avoid exercising until your tan is fully developed as sweating will interfere with the developing process. Rinse the bronzer off with warm water before exercising to avoid staining any clothing. When you leave
Bronze 365, you will have an even, streak free tan. We are not responsible if something happens after you leave that causes the tan to be uneven or have streaks. If you end up getting wet, you have two choices. Either wash the bronzer off at that point or wait and continue to let the tan develop as there is a good chance the tan will even out as it develops... as long as you don't rub the areas that got wet.
Bronze 365 does sell
Tanning Extender and
Chocolate Tanning Lotion, which can be used for touchups.
When to shower? It is advisable to wait 9-24 hours before showering. Tans can take up to 24 hours to develop. The longer you wait to rinse off, the longer the tan will last and it will fade more evenly. Our fast acting solution can be washed off anywhere from 1-5 hours, depending on the desired color. Don't be alarmed the first time you shower. The color that washes off is just the
bronzer. Your tan will remain on your skin and fade as your skin sheds.
Warning about sheets, furniture & clothing... There is a chance that
bronzer can rub off on fabrics. Most fabrics will wash completely clean, but
bronzer can stain nylon, silk, wool, or leather. If you're worried about your furniture, please put a towel down before you sit — only until you rinse off the bronzer. It's recommended that you sleep on old sheets until you have rinsed off the
bronzer.
How to take care of your tan... Tan will typically last anywhere from 5 to 12 days — it depends on how quickly your skin exfoliates, what products you use, and how much you moisturize and hydrate your skin. Most people come in weekly to maintain their sexy glow. Taking quick, warm showers instead of long, hot showers or baths will help extend your tan. Avoid rubbing your skin with a towel as you dry off. Applying moisturizer within 3 minutes of showering will help lock in all that additional moisture. It is advisable to moisturize twice a day and drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Avoid anything that exfoliates, such as alpha hydroxy and glycolic creams/lotions. We do offer tanning extenders if you would like to maintain your color between tanning sessions. **Avoid Jacuzzis, hot tubs, saunas, chlorine, and very long, hot showers or your tan will fade much faster! Once your tan starts to fade, you can speed up the fading process by exfoliating, if you so desire. If you apply baby oil to soften your skin before exfoliating then you will be able to exfoliate much more thoroughly.
How long will the tan last? As stated above, the tan will typically last anywhere from 5 to 12 days — it depends on how quickly your skin exfoliates, what products you use, and how much you moisturize and hydrate your skin.
bronzer bronzer How often can I get a tan? You can come in for a tan as often as you'd like. Many people come in weekly to maintain their worry-free tan that never fades. If your skin is extremely dry then you might want to skip a week once in a while to hydrate thoroughly and get your moisture balanced.
Protection from the sun... Sunless tanning does NOT protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun and UV rays, so please use protection if you will be out in the sun. Your skin is more susceptible within the first 24 hours so please be extra careful.
The visual slimming and weight loss effect... One of the many fun advantages of a sunless tan is the instant visual weight loss of approximately 10 pounds. A spray tan is not only slimming, but it visually enhances your definition and helps to hide all those flaws that we all dislike so much. Take a look at the image at the top of the website. You will notice that the bodies look thinner and more defined as the depth of the tan increases.
What to do if you're pregnant? Even though our solutions are FDA approved, nontoxic, and completely safe,
Bronze 365 will not give you a spray tan unless you have a note from your doctor. We also advise waiting until you are no longer breast feeding before having a spray tan.
